Féile MOTH begins with The Pogues ‘Red Roses for Me’ 40th Anniversary Performance, curated by Spider Stacy + very special guests, at Moth Club on Friday 3rd May.
The UK music press hailed the Pogues’ debut album as a breath of fresh air. Melody Maker felt that “the quality of their music, even the very nature of it, is strangely irrelevant. What’s important is their existence at all. For The Pogues are a gesture – a particularly bloody two-fingered one – aimed at all things considered current and fashionable in 1984… Theirs is a gut reaction to traditional music – and with it comes all the motion, intensity and vigour that has largely been lost to these songs since the early days of the folk revival in the Sixties.”
For this exclusive performance, The Pogues’ Spider Stacy curates a lineup of musicians to perform the debut album in its entirety, promising a mix of contemporary names and long-time collaborators.
More about Féile MOTH
We’re proud to be joining forces with The Broadside Hacks Folk Club, Skinty Records & River Lea Recordings for Féile MOTH: a four day celebration of Irish music and culture.
Taking place at MOTH Club, we’ll welcome the likes of John Francis Flynn, Andy Irvine, Rónán Ó Snodaigh & Myles O’Reilly, Brigid Mae Power, Junior Brother and more, plus a very special opening night: The Pogues ‘Red Roses for Me’ 40th Anniversary Performance, curated by Spider Stacy.
The Broadside Hacks Folk Club found its home at Hackney’s MOTH club in March 2023 and has since become a central hub to a new generation of folk musicians in London.
Skinty Records was founded by Tom Coll (Fontaines DC), a life-long lover of Irish traditional music. In 2021 they released their debut compilation ‘Goitse A Thaisce’ in 2021 which featured legends of the tradition such as Paul Brady & Andy Irvine, The Bothy Band, Dervish and Joe Heaney as well as a modern wave of artists like Ye Vagabonds and Lisa O’Neill.
