THE GOON SAX – 9:30pm
The Goon Sax are James Harrison, Louis Forster and Riley Jones from Brisbane. Still in high school when they made their first album Up To Anything in 2016, their brand of awkwardly transcendent teenage guitar pop took them into end of year lists for BBC 6Music, Billboard and Rough Trade, and earned them rave reviews from the Guardian, Pitchfork, Spin, Uncut, Rolling Stone and elsewhere. According to Metacritic, Up To Anything was the 8th best-reviewed debut album anywhere in the world in 2016.
This September sees the release of their upcoming album, We’re Not Talking (out on Wichita Recordings). Having sold out their show at Sebright Arms, The Goon Sax next play The Garage!
The alter ego of Country Teasers’ Ben Wallers, The Rebel dates back to the tail-end of the 80s—having existed side-by-side throughout Country Teasers’ prolific career—often releasing records at a steadier clip than Waller’s main project with songs too madcap to fit into even their William-Burroughs-by-way-of-The-Residents take on country music.
Life Drawings are an ungoogleable band of tip-top artrockers based around the Stoke Newington. Their debut release – self-titled Life Drawings cassette – was released on Christmas Day 2017 on Permanent Slump Records. It features 8-track home recordings of demos and cover songs, with the ever reliable Game Boy providing the drums.
