Upon the release of their debut album in 2016, Szun Waves immediately picked up excellent coverage through the likes of FACT, XL8R and DrownedinSound. Live they were added to Nils Frahm’s Possibly Colliding live series in conjunction with The Barbican, as well as Convergence Festival that spring. Radio support came particularly through 6Music and the band have already toured Europe and Australia. Interest quickly formulated thanks to the sum of the band’s parts:
Luke Abbott’s debut album Holkham Drones was one of Mojo’s ‘Electronica Albums of 2010’. In 2012, Abbott was in residence at Wysing Arts Centre where he produced a site-specific composition which is now in the grounds of the art venue, titled ‘Wysing Forest’. In 2015 Luke was commissioned to score the original sound track to the UK feature film ‘The Goob’. It garnered the Best Soundtrack award at the Stockholm Film Festival in 2015.
Jack Wylie is a multi instrumentalist working largely across jazz, ambient and electronic music and has released music across labels such as Real World Records, Ninja Tune and Lex Records. He has produced four studio albums with his band Portico Quartet, plus toured extensively across the world including headline gigs at the Barbican and Roundhouse. With Portico Jack has been nominated for the Mercury Music prize he has also collaborated with artists such as Bonobo, Jamie Woon and Joe Newman (Alt – J).
As a drummer, Laurence Pike has appeared on over 40 album releases, notably in the jazz world. He was producer of the first ‘Jazz:Now’ festival at the Sydney Opera House, a finalist in the 2004 National Jazz Awards, and also the Freedman Fellowship in 2006. His acclaimed band PVT, signed to Warp records has released five albums and Pike released his debut album earlier this year.
