September 16, 2016 saw El Perro Del Mar release Kokoro – her first album since the critically acclaimed and P3 Gold-vaunted Pale Fire(2012). The album is her fifth since her debut ten years ago and much has happened since then.
Because of this, Kokoro is her most ambitious and exploratory album to date. With the state of the world – musically, politically and environmentally in her thoughts since her son’s birth, her latest is not only an album but also a kind of aesthetic and political movement.
“In a time that seems to go backward purely humanistic and moral, which tries to put up walls instead of tearing them down, I knew early on that I wanted to make a borderless album that does not really belong anywhere but has a universal voice, and the universal heart”
Andrew Hung is an English-Chinese Artist-Producer. Mainly known for his collaborative work, this year sees the enigmatic artist release his first solo record. His collaborative works have included Fuck Buttons, writing and producing Beth Orton, and soundtracking the award-winning The Greasy Strangler. Viewing his own body of work as a voyage through these collaborations, his music will surely be reflected as such; raucous and fiercely independent. A hammer to expectations.
